Primary Health Education/Promotion Service
The process of supporting Maori Whanau to determine their own health goals and quality of life. It places emphasis on whole populations to have an active role in achieving health gains to benefit all.
Iwi Health is a team dedicated to offering support to all Maori Whanau living within Kirikiriroa, in the following health areas:
- Promotion of Tamariki Ora (Well Child) Services.
- Immunisation Promotion.
- Prevention of Hearing Loss.
- Prevention of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
- Parenting Support and Skills Programme.
- Injury Prevention and Tuku Kura Kainga - Child Carseat Restraints.
- Breastfeeding Promotion and Advocacy
Iwi Health Service objectives are:
- To increase the proportion of children completing Tamariki Ora Services, including early childhood immunisation.
- To significantly reduce hearing loss in children in the under five-year age group
- To continue the reduction in rates of sudden infant death syndrome.
- To improve and protect the health of tamariki by promoting parenting skills and social support for parents and caregivers.
- To ensure injury prevention programmes are available to those communities most at need.
- To increase breastfeeding promotion, advocacy and co-ordination at both national and local levels.
We work closely with other Health and Community providers with an emphasis on Kaupapa Maori and Maori Concepts of Health.
