Youth Coach – Community (Kaiawhina)

About Us

Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa is a kaupapa Māori organisation based on a whānau first, tikanga based, wellbeing approach. Our organisation works to a model of care centred around our pou (guiding principles) of manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, arohatanga, rangatiratanga, tika and pono. We deliver 30+ health and social services across the life span (i.e., from infants to the elderly) and have a team of over 100 people working across Hamilton city and beyond.

About the Role

We have 3 Kaiawhina Youth Coach – Community positions available within our Whai Marama Youth Services Team. Whai Marama Youth Services is a youth focused service designed to support taiohi in Kirikiriroa. We strive to assist taiohi into autonomy to drive their own future and to have a voice for themselves and their overall well-being.

Position available

  • 3 x permanent, full time positions, 40 hours/week
  • Monday-Friday, 8.30am – 5.00pm
  • From $26.00 per hour dependent on qualifications and experience, aligning with pay equity

We are seeking a Kaiawhina Youth Coach - Community who

  • Prides themself on their ability to work to a whānau first, tikanga based, wellbeing approach
  • Is passionate about making a difference in the lives of our taiohi
  • Has a positive and supportive mindset in supporting our taiohi to achieve their goals and aspirations
  • Demonstrates patience and calm by working alongside and at the pace of our taiohi
  • Works to a holistic approach to wellbeing
  • Understands and actively demonstrates our pou
  • Uses appropriate language and communication skills (e.g., tone, active listening) to fully understand the needs of the taiohi
  • Has a reasonable level of computer literacy to complete case notes and other electronic documents e.g., emails

Specific Requirements

  • 1-3 years working in a kaupapa Māori environment
  • 1-3 years experience in coaching or mentoring taiohi
  • A basic understanding of te ao Māori principles e.g., te reo and tikanga, and a willingness to learn more in this area
  • A level 4 qualification in youth coaching/learning and development, te reo Māori, tikanga Māori or be prepared to study towards one or more of these qualifications
  • Evidence of being fully vaccinated and boosted against Covid-19
  • Full driver licence
  • Proof of your right to work in New Zealand

Salary/HOURLY RATE:
Between $57,200.00 - $64,480.00 dependent on qualifications and experience, aligning with pay equity.
