Our Brand Story

Our Story

Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa was founded by Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu, in association with Sir Ross Jansen, to uplift the wellbeing of mātāwaka and Pasifika, while supporting all who seek our services.

For over 36 years, we have remained committed to whānau-first, tikanga-based solutions, growing into a regional leader in housing, health, and social services.

Te Runanga o Kirikiriroa Tohu

Honouring the Past, Moving Forward

Our tohu reflects our whakapapa, kaupapa, and values. While it has evolved, its essence remains the same — grounded in the vision that guides our mahi.

At the heart of our work are six core pou:

  • Whanaungatanga
  • Manaakitanga
  • Arohatanga
  • Rangatiratanga
  • Tika
  • Pono

Why a Refreshed Brand?

Our brand redesign journey aimed to refresh and enhance the identity of Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa. This initiative sought to create a modernised visual representation that continues to embody the richness and diversity of our organisation. By weaving historical narratives, cultural values, and strategic goals, we have crafted a contemporary look that remains meaningful and adaptable across all communication platforms.

Design Process & Collaboration

The design process was both inclusive and iterative, reflecting the collective input of stakeholders, kaimahi, and kaumātua. We began with a discovery phase, drawing from the knowledge of whānau and examining historical contexts to shape our approach. Through multiple rounds of sketches, concept development, and refinement, we arrived at a final design that honours our past while looking towards the future. This section highlights the collaborative journey and key milestones in the development of our refreshed tohu and brand identity.
