Progressive Home Ownership

Your Path to Home Ownership Starts Here

At Te Rūnanga o Kirikiriroa, we know that home ownership is more than just a dream – it’s a foundation for stability, wellbeing, and future generations. Our Progressive Home Ownership (PHO) programme is here to help whānau who are nearly ready to buy a home, but just need that extra support to get over the line.

We’re offering 27 homes through this rent-to-own pathway. If you’ve got stable income, but a deposit is just out of reach, this could be your chance.

How it Works

You’ll rent a home from TRoK, and each time you pay rent, a portion of it goes toward building up your deposit. When you’re ready, that deposit helps you purchase the home you’ve been living in.

You're not doing this alone – our team walks alongside you the whole way. We’ll work with you on a financial plan, check in regularly, and guide you through an 8-week Home Ownership Wānanga to get you prepped for success.

The Journey

  1. Expression of Interest (EOI):
Let us know you’re keen. Everyone can submit an EOI – especially Māori and Pasifika whānau, who we prioritise.
  2. Formal Application:
If your EOI is successful, you’ll be invited to fill out a formal application with all the supporting documents.
  3. Decision Time:
Applications open 26 May 2025, and all decisions will be finalised by 31 October 2025.

What Makes a Strong Application?

We’re looking for whānau who:

  • Are in steady employment
  • Have manageable debt
  • Are already contributing to KiwiSaver
  • Can afford to rent on the private market
  • Have a good credit history (or a clear plan to improve it)
  • Are committed to completing our 8-week Wānanga and living in the home for at least 3 years

Documents You’ll Need for the Formal Application

You don’t need these for the EOI, but it’s a good idea to start gathering them now:

Required documents:

  • Photo ID (e.g. Driver’s Licence or Passport)
  • Proof of NZ Citizenship or Residency (if not born in Aotearoa)
  • Latest payslip or MSD income and family tax credit summary
  • 52-week income statement from MSD (if applicable)
  • Certificate of earnings (if receiving Working for Families)
  • Bank statements from the last 3 months (all accounts)
  • Details of any hire purchases (what you owe + length of contract)
  • Two personal referee contacts
  • A tenancy reference

Ready to get started?

Fill out the Expression of Interest (EOI) form
(An EOI just lets us know you're interested – it’s not a full application.)
